ABDOMINAL THERAPY

Why Should I Choose Abdominal Therapy?

  • My periods are painful, heavy, sparse, or irregular

  • I want to increase my fertility

  • I have fibroids or endometriosis

  • I have pelvic floor prolapse

  • I have PCOS

  • My digestion is sluggish or uncomfortable

  • I want to improve urinary function

  • I want to fully recover from giving birth

  • My C-section scar has healed, but feels tight and restrictive

  • I want to have an easier menopause or perimenopause

  • I suffer from prostate problems, urinary and/or or erectile dysfunction

Much more than a massage, Abdominal Therapy is a wellness system with a wonderful track record of improvement for all the above concerns and more. The key problem for all the above is congestion: when we relieve what’s stuck in the abdomen and get all systems flowing optimally — Nerve impulses, Arterial blood, Venous blood, Energy, and Lymph (NAVEL for short) — the body finds its natural balance and homeostasis is achieved.

Based on the timeless Maya tradition of belly massage, my teacher Rosita Arvigo developed this work as we practice it today based on her own training as a doctor of naprapathy and her many years’ apprenticeship in Belize with the renowned Maya healer, Don Elijio Panti.

Sometimes called womb massage, this non-invasive work is best known for addressing misalignment in the reproductive organs of both women and men, as well as many common digestive disorders. The massage will cover the entire abdomen. The techniques effectively alleviate tissue congestion and organ constriction to improve fluid exchange, helping to release emotional and energetic tension. This can reverse the progression of chronic disease while improving the body’s ability to self-repair and balance.

PAINFUL OR IRREGULAR PERIODS: We do not have to live with menstrual complaints such as pain, extreme moods, a flow that’s too heavy or too light, or an erratic cycle. We see a woman’s period as a vital sign of health in general. Don Elijio said that if a woman’s uterus is off-center, her life is out of balance, and that centering the uterus, which happens as a result of consistent application of this work, will help with all period complaints. Every woman has a right to a comfortable, stress-free period.

FERTILITY CHALLENGES: If we fix the period, we improve fertility as well. Abdominal Therapy is extremely affordable compared to medical interventions for fertility, and it can be highly effective in helping the body find its optimal state of balance for pregnancy, and is beneficial to overall health without any negative side effects. Also helps increase chances of successful transfer and pregnancy when using IUI or IVF.

POSTPARTUM CARE: New mothers often suffer from achiness, exhaustion, and feeling overwhelmed. It's helpful to keep in mind what enormous changes the body has undergone throughout pregnancy and birth, and to take time to nourish the mother back to optimal health. Ideally, she should stay home for the first 40 days after birth, nursing, bonding with Baby, resting and rebuilding her strength and eating warm, nourishing foods. Some new mothers prefer to see Megan for Swedish Massage after birth. Once the abdomen is fully healed at 6-12 weeks, we may switch to Abdominal Therapy sessions, which include gentle abdominal manipulation and energy work.

Once she has fully recovered from birth, as long as she feels comfortable having massage on her belly, then Abdominal Therapy can be very helpful in re-aligning the uterus and establishing pelvic health and will encourage the flow of oxytocin, which triggers the release of breast milk.

In addition, it will:

Speed up recovery from a C-section. As soon as the wound is fully healed, gentle massage to the area thereafter will increase blood supply and encourage internal healing, soften scar tissue, and increase fluid circulation.

Improve well-being and immunity by stimulating lymph flow.

Ease the baby blues and postnatal depression. Massage is an excellent stress buster and mood elevator.

Buying a package of treatments is a great way to ensure that your recovery from birth will be complete.

Recommended are 2 sessions per month for 3 months.

Abdominal Therapy is especially effective in helping support mothers who wish to have a VBAC in the future, as well as relieving adhesions and pulling around the surgical scar.

NOTE: IT IS IDEAL TO SCHEDULE YOUR ABDOMINAL THERAPY SESSION WHEN YOU WILL NOT BE MENSTRUATING

WHAT TO EXPECT

Before your first visit, we will schedule a Zoom session where you’ll discuss your health history and learn various forms of self-care you can do at home, such as warm castor oil packs on the abdomen, the use of herbal tonics, perineal steaming, spiritual bathing, and more.

In the office on your first visit of 90 minutes, I will perform the treatment and teach you how to massage your own belly at home. Followup sessions are in the office for one hour. After your initial Abdominal Therapy session, if desired, we can add 30 minutes of Swedish massage to your one-hour followup session to relieve aches and pains as needed, beyond the belly.

I will work with you to address your specific needs. Typically, 2-3 professional sessions (at a minimum) are required to address most conditions. Clients who perform their self-care massage on a regular basis are most likely to report an improvement in their symptoms.

For more information on what to expect from your first Abdominal Therapy treatment, see Welcome to the New Abdominal Therapy Collective.

Testimonial from an Abdominal Therapy client:

“I found Megan when I was on my journey to heal my hormones and fall pregnant and I am so glad I did. I was looking for Mayan abdominal therapy and after our first initial call I could sense she was super passionate, kind and intelligent. After I started seeing her only twice my period regulated for the first time in my life and I managed to fall pregnant on the first go. I then saw her when I was pregnant for a prenatal massage which was just delightful. I highly recommend Megan to anyone looking for support – you will be in great supportive hands and will feel so looked after.”
